About Austasia Airlines

History
Austasia Airlines Pty Ltd is an Australian owned and registered company based in Perth, Western Australia. The business activities of the company first commenced in 1980 with the chartering of aircraft from Asia to Christmas Island and in 15 December 1995 CI Aviation Services was formed, which continued ad hoc charter services. On 5th March 2002 Austasia Airlines Pty Ltd was formed and took over the scheduled charter operations.
From 2001 the company was operating a weekly scheduled service from Jakarta and then in Bali using Merpati Nusantara Airlines and then Garuda Indonesia Airways using a Boeing 737-400 aircraft. The arrangements with Merpati Nusantara Airlines was terminated because of a failure of the company to comply with the security equipment required by the Australian legislation (cockpit security doors). The arrangement with Garuda Indonesia Airways was terminated after the second Bali Terrorist Bombings which seriously affected business activity. From February 1, 2006 Austasia signed a two year contract with Silk Air to provide a wet lease for an Airbus A320 aircraft to operate a weekly schedule from Singapore to Christmas Island.
The Christmas island charter flights ceased operations in May 2007.

Since June 2007, Austasia Airlines focussed its attention on establishing a new route; direct flights from Singapore to Dili, East Timor. The first scheduled commercial flight from Singapore's Changi International Airport to Dili's President Nicolau Lobato International Airport was on August 1, 2008 with a twice weekly schedule every Tuesday and Friday, and in November 2008 the schedule changed to Tuesday and Saturday. Austasia utilises a Silk Air A319 for the bi-weekly service, which links Timor-Leste to the global network of Singapore Airlines and other airlines operating from Changi Airport.

To support this new operation, Austasia Airlines maintained its Perth office as an Administration and Marketing Office, its Singapore office as the Operations Office and established a Marketing and Operations Office in Dili, Timor-Leste upon commencement of these flights.

In August 2009 the company restructured its organization whereby the Dili, Timor-Leste office was established as the Head Office with both the Singapore and Perth offices becoming branch offices. Then in November 2009, the Dili office was registered as a national Timor-Leste company (Austasia Airlines S.A.).

Scheduled flights between Singapore and Dili will be increased from a twice weekly flight to 3 per week effective March 2010 and with a further increase of 5 per week in end of 2010.
